Robert Piquet was born in Switzerland, but left home for Paris at the age of 17. Piquet got his start in the world of haute couture working for the likes of Redfern, and later, with his future mentor and friend, Paul Poiret. In 1933, Robert Piquet opened his own design house in Rue de Cirque, where his designs became highly regarded for their sublime delicacy and refined simplicity.

 

By the time he presided over his salon at Rond Point des Champs Elysee in 1938, Robert Piquet was regarded as one of the world’s foremost designers. His shops were frequented by the most elite artists and luminaries the world of art and fashion had to offer. Known as "the most Parisian of fashion designers," Robert Piquet taught some of the world’s finest designers, including Balmain, Dior, Bohan, Givenchy and famed American designer, James Galanos.
