BORSARI DESIGNER HISTORY

Borsari 1870's history is embedded in the Italian perfume industry and the collection is housed in the Palazzina Borsari, which is open to the public. The presence of the Borsari 1870 collection in Parma documents the major stages in the development of the fashions, graphics and craft of the perfumes themselves from 1870 to 1950.

Borsari Perfume History

The Borsari di Parma perfume house was established in 1870 in Parma, Italy, by barber Lodovico Borsari. Their first and best-known fragrance was Violetta di Parma. Violetta di Parma was said to have been created by the monks at the Monastery of the Annunciata for Marie Louise, the second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1870, Lodovico Borsari obtained the formula and launched his own perfume line with the fragrance. The Museo Borsari is dedicated to this famous perfume and is, without a doubt, one of the city's most typical museums. It is dedicated to perfumes and in particular the Parma Violet, Through the history of the Corsari agency which produces it, founded in 1870 the collection illustrates the fundamental stages of art, graphics, style and taste linked to Italian perfumes. Borsari also makes a violet-based mixed floral, Bouquette di Violette, with rose, lily of the valley, iris, and hyacinth.

Lodovico went on to create many more classic fragrances for his perfume house, including Acqua della Macchia Mediterranea which offers hints of sage, fig, cypress, lavender and citrus. At Borsari di Parma in 1880 he created Acqua Classica, considered a unisex cologne that has  a refreshing blend of citrus, sage, geranium, sandalwood, leather and oak musk that became popular with men. Unchanged since Lodovico Borsari created it in 1880, Acqua Classica Borsari Parma is still made in accordance with the original formula, based on Citrus, Sage, Geranium, Sandalwood, Leather and Oak Musk essences. It adds a refreshing and elegant touch at any time of the day. Fragrance Notes: Citrus, Sage, Geranium, Sandalwood, Leather, Oak Musk

Other lovely floral fragrances from Borsari include Lily of the Valley, Orange Blossom, Lavenda Alpina, and Tea Rose. Borsari also sells collections of miniatures, and these are worth looking for as the larger sets include fragrances which are difficult to find elsewhere, such Corteccia di Pino which has a lovely pine scent.
