SHISEIDO PERFUME HISTORY

In 1872, former head pharmacist to the Japanese Imperial Navy, Arinobu Fukuhara, founded the Shiseido Pharmacy and is credited with introducing ice cream to Japan after a visit to the United States and Europe. One of Japan’s finest cosmetic pharmacies, Shiseido was the first to offer flesh tone and color-correcting face powders to Japanese women.

In 1923, Shiseido started to expand its store-base on a global scale with outlets opening up in Taiwan in 1957, Hawaii in 1962, Italy in 1968 and New Zealand in 1971. During that time, in 1965, the company established Shiseido Cosmetics America.

In 1980, the company turned to French artist, Serge Lutens, as its international image creator and ever since, the company has been renowned for their global marketing presence and innovative advertising imagery. Today, Shiseido has approximately 25,000 outlets worldwide.
