Paco Rabanne was born in 1934 in San Sebastian, Spain. During his early years, Paco’s mother was employed as Balenciaga’s chief seamstress. Eventually, due to the family’s political affiliation, Paco and his family were forced to take exile in France, where in 1952; he studied architecture at the legendary Beaux-Arts School in Paris. During that time, Paco made money by selling sketches and producing fashion accessories for the likes of Cardin, Courreges, Balenciaga and Givenchy.

 

In 1966, Paco Rabanne held his first fashion show, featuring paper dresses that were sold in envelopes. The following year, he became one of the first designers to create form-fitted clothing. In 1990, the designer unveiled his first line of ready-to-wear clothing, highly regarded for its use of innovative materials and modern, clean lines. Paco Rabanne eventually turned his full concentration to designing ready-to-wear clothing in 1999 as that type of fashion was becoming more prevalent. Today, the Paco Rabanne brand is led by Artistic Director Patrick Robinson, who took over the role in 2005.

 

Paco Rabanne introduced his first perfume, Calandre, in 1969. Many years later, in 1987, the Paco Rabanne perfume, La Nuit was released. In 1997, Paco Energy was released and the following year saw the debut of Ultraviolet for Women. More recent Paco Rabanne perfumes include Black XS for Women, Paco Rabanne Metal for Women, Paco Rabanne Pour Elle and XS Extreme.

 

In 1973, the first Paco Rabanne cologne for men went on the market, and it instantly received notoriety for being the first aromatic scent available for men. The most recently introduced Paco Rabanne colognes include Paco Rabanne 1 Million, Ultrared, Ultraviolet Man Aurora Borealis and Black XS for Men.

 

In 1996, Paco Rabanne cologne introduced the design house’s first foray into the unisex fragrance market with Paco, followed two years later by Paco Energy.
