JO MALONE – DESIGNER HISTORY

Born in Bexleyheath, Kent in 1964, Jo Malone had a love affair with fragrance from a very young age. The child of an artist father and a beautician mother, Jo Malone would create her own fragrances from the flowers growing in her backyard. Her early exposure to naturalistic scents is what inspired her ingeniously simplistic early fragrances that typically featured just one or two notes.

Jo spent her teenage years living in London where she worked as a florist by day while giving facials to women in the evening. She ran her burgeoning business from her very own kitchen. She met her husband at the age of 19 and from that point, her business of producing handmade scents and products started to grow exponentially. Her initial foray into scented products came with the creation of a nutmeg and ginger bath oil which was given to her facial customers as a thank you gift.

In 1994, Jo Malone opened up her first store at 154 Walton Street in London and her magnetic scents quickly drew the attention of many of England’s most prominent women. Five years later, her flagship store opened its doors on London’s famed Sloane Street. That very year, fragrance giant Estée Lauder acquired a large stake of the company, allowing Jo Malone access to state-of-the-art laboratories for fragrance design and manufacturing.

With her deal with Estée Lauder, Jo Malone perfumes were now becoming more available in stateside couture shops like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. Her success in the U.S. enabled her to open her first New York shop in the landmark Flatiron Building in 2001. The following year, she introduced her first line of skin care products. Today, Jo Malone operates nine stores in the UK and Ireland, over three hundred concessions in the U.S. and a shop in Sydney, Australia.

Jo Malone Perfume

Jo Malone’s first fragrance, Lime, Basil & Mandarin, was created and launched in 1991. It was an immediate success and remains one of her best sellers. The fragrance was even chosen as the product of choice for guests at London’s famous Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel. The unique thing about Jo Malone’s creations is that each one is a unisex fragrance that can be combined with others in her line to create an endless array of scent possibilities. Her own signature fragrance is the combination of her Amber & Lavender fragrance with Vetyver.

Layer!! Your fragrance will last longer if you use the same fragrance lotion and powder. Lotion first then the powder and top off with the spray fragrance. You don't have to use much and your fragrance will linger even after you have left the room.
