HISTORY OF PAUL SMITH FRAGRANCES

Paul Smith was born in 1946 in Nottingham, England. He got his start in the couture industry at age 18 while working as a gofer in a nearby clothing warehouse. All the while he worked; he saved his money and eventually opened up his own shop in 1970. He learned the art of design by taking night classes in tailoring.

Continually to learn and grow, by 1976, Paul Smith had become a consultant to an Italian shirt maker and to the International Wool Secretariat. Later that same year, he introduced his first collection bearing his name in Paris.

A true rags-to-riches story, Paul Smith was made a CBE in 1994 and received the Queen's Award for Export the following year. The readers of GQ named him the Designer of the Year for four years in a row and on November 24, 2000, he was granted the ultimate honor of knighthood.
