Preparing Your Skin for Summertime – Important Things to Remember

Summertime provides a great opportunity to spend our time outside participating in fun activities from walks in the park, picnic lunches, sports and days at the beach to outdoor exercises including biking, swimming, hiking, running and more.  Unfortunately, along with warmer temperatures and a stronger sun come numerous potential threats to the health, appearance and feel of your skin.  To prepare your skin for the dangers of summertime, be sure to remember these important tips and apply them daily.

Moisturize –Moisturizers, enriched with light oils and moisture-binding humectants, create a protective barrier to maintain moisture in the outer layer of the skin without clogging pores. Apply a moisturizer to damp skin immediately after cleansing to replace natural oils, prevent dryness and irritation and maintain skin that is smooth and soft.  For lasting results, deep moisturize with facial masks and use muds, peels and firming oils weekly.

Use Sun Screen – Protect your skin from damaging UVA/UVB rays with a daily application of sun screen with a strength of at least SPF 15 – even on overcast days.  Sunscreen has numerous benefits on the health and appearance of your skin including the prevention of lines, wrinkles and other signs of old age as well as skin cancer such as melanoma.
